Rowing with the Youth Program

Group 4 participated in the Gardening & Nature Club this Friday. One thing they learned is that they cannot build an open fire for s'more roasting in the middle of the city.

Group 4 got creative and improvised with some bbq'ed marshmallows, chocolate, and crackers! Check out their final products. YUM!

Kids always seem to be hungry, and finding healthy snacks isn't always easy! This summer, the Summer Daze staff has made a great effort to provide campers with delicious and nutritious snack options. To kick off Animal Week, the Summer Daze camp was visited by a handful of exotic creatures and critters provided by Hands on Exotic.

Zoe, a macaw parrot, is now 15 years old and can live to be over 100 years old!

We are a group of four youth artist and two suprevisors. This Summer we are working towards createing murals around the city to beautify it for everyone. On this day we went around the city observing past murals done by the community centre, and also looking at potiential mural sites to paint. The things I used to make this ipad2 was made with paint. [watercolour paint and acriylic paint ] and i used acrilylic paint for the black strip on the outer part of my art was used with acriylic paint ,and the tabs and icons was used /painted with watercolour paint. You can see that there is icons on the screen of the ipad2 the icons are the Calender, the Camera , Notes, Maps, Face Chat Camera , there is also a ipod and other important icons such as the safari icon ,and other things!!!!!!!!

When we were at arcadia we made protraits of the seinors that michael picked for us. We did a good job and the serniors were proud. They had smiles on there faces and they also had cookies, apple cider and cake. The cake was made by melanie and when we were at the centre we helped decorate it.

After we looked at the country flag book and it had flags of the world and we used plastine to make our flags and they looked good .

Hi Everyone

My name is Brigitte and I have been Volunteering with Michael Brown and the kids from the Harbourfront Summer Camp.

We have been doing amazing this year, and we have much to show for it.

The Room 13 program has been filled with creativity and joy. Which would not have been without the participation of the wonderful kids we have had this year in the program.

We have been working on different projects throughout the summer, and going on various field trips which all relate to how art is expressed through the minds of the kids and the society we live in.

Recently we went to The Distillery to take a walk through the Corkin Gallery, visit David Brown's Studio and take some photography of one of Toronto's historic landmarks. The kids were really involoved and we were warmly welcomed.

Much of our program has been held here at the Harbourfront and continues to grow since much of the kids that participate with the Room 13 program come back in the Fall.

We hope to see all the kids that have participated come back next year, since we love having them.

We launched the boat on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at a celebration of Art on the Move: the project that supported the painting of the sailboat and 4 vans. Despite the thundershowers, the day was very memorable... Youth Art Fest A Success!

December 17th was the date of Harbourfront Community Centre's first Youth Art Fest. It was an exciting event that showcased videos from 4 youth projects here at the Centre. This night highlighted moments from the LEAP Music Production Project, the Graffiti Mural Transformation Project, The Youth Wilderness Adventure Project and the Youth Program's 2008 retreat.

One of the stars of the evening, Jarel, was one of 4 participants who were recognized at the event for their accomplishment in completing the first Session of our LEAP hip hop music production project.

Mural Walk makes page 12 of the Toronto Sun

Spirit of the Sea“Spirit of the Sea” is a design created for the purpose of beautifying the Harbourfront Community Centre boat. The concept behind the piece relates to the mythology and fantasy associated with the sea. Mythical creatures and dream-like images reflect a world of wonder and imagination. The mermaid featured at the bow (front) of the boat, represents the spirit (or soul of the sea who watches over the waters and all of its creatures. The images are meant to illustrate a sense of harmony, the constant cycles of the moon and sun and the ebb and flow of the waves.

On Monday Aug. 10th, we went to the YouthLink which is located at Queen and Spadina Street. We spent a week there, painting walls and the doors. Before we painted the walls, they were all graffitis, a whole bunch of writings there. They were a mess. So now, that we have finished "decorating" the walls...they are much better looking than before. We used, spray paint, paint and tempra paint. We had fun.

The mural project started painting on a boat, with a permission from the HCC, of course. As you can see by the pictures, we had fun, but we also took a lot of time and effort to get things right. And, ahem, we kind of fooled around a bit.

Variety Village on July 29th 2009.

On July 29th, the mural project went to the Variety Village to do some art activities with the kids. We played/did pass and draw, pictionary, string beads, face painting, origami and booklets.

On July, 30th Harbourfront Community Centre's Youth Wilderness Project visited the beach. We discovered that it is faster to ride a bike to the beach than to take the TTC from the Centre. Some of the activities we did were football, swimming, volleyball, play catch, eat, and most importantly relaxing in the shade.

I like the Tip Top Tailors buliding because a long time ago it use to be a clothes factory and now it is a condo and people live there. The building is also across the street from my house.

Edward's Blue Whale

The blue whale is the largest animal in the world. It can grow to 100 feet long(or more!) and weigh 220 tonnes ( one tonne is 1,000 kilograms) It is an endangered animal . 10,000 or more blue whales are left in the world. It eats tiny krill and zooplankton. It can eat four tonnes of krill or zooplankton a day. The blue whale can expand its lower jaw to eat large amounts of krill or zooplankton. The blue whale lives in the ocean and can dive to 7,00 meters.

The fin whale is the second largest animal in the world and can can grow to 75 feet. When a blue whale comes up to the surface to breathe, its nose blows water 30 feet into the air.I drew these whales because I was going to build a shirt with it.
